Ahead of his Tuesday election, Run for Something is proud to endorse Garlin Gilchrist II, 34 years old, for Detroit City Clerk.

Garlin is a former computer engineer and veteran political organizer who has detailed plans to revamp the recruitment and training of poll workers, reduce obstacles to voter participation, and use the internet to help get citizens engaged with their city government. He’s exactly the kind of person we need running for local office.

Ross Morales Rocketto, co-founder, says it best:

Garlin is the type of person who sees a problem in his community, gathers information about it, and then organizes to solve it. That is what he did for President Obama, MoveOn.org, and Microsoft, and that is what he’s doing in his run for Detroit City Clerk. Run for Something is excited and honored to make Garlin our first non-Virginia endorsee and we wish him and his team luck at the polls on August 8th!

Garlin Gilchrist II is excited, too:

I’m proud to have the support of Run for Something, an organization that’s at the forefront of recruiting strong, qualified candidates to pursue public service. With their help, we will continue to expand our outreach to Detroit residents and voters about why their engagement and participation is so critical, and why I’m the best-qualified candidate to serve them as their next City Clerk.

The City Clerk of Detroit oversees elections in Michigan’s largest city. The person who holds this office ensures that elections in the city are run transparently and with integrity. Garlin is running in a competitive primary; his election is on Tuesday, August 8th. Learn more about his campaign at gilchristforcityclerk.com.
